From the elegant piazzas of Udine to the Roman treasures of Aquileia, the region offers invaluable cultural and artistic experiences. The mountains, villages, and lagoons provide the backdrop for folk festivals, fairs, and food and wine events that celebrate local traditions and welcome visitors year-round.
Udine: Udine Castle and historic center. The main events are the Friuli Doc in September, the Far East Festival in April-May, and the Modern Home Fair in October;
Gorizia: Gorizia Castle and historic center. The main event is Gusti di frontiera (Frontier Tastes) in September;
Trieste: The port, the aquarium, Miramare Castle, the historic center, the Karst hills with their typical osmiza (wine taverns). The main event is the Barcolana regatta in October;
Palmanova: the star-shaped fortress city, with its market, historical reenactments and a walk around the walls;
Cividale: numerous events are held in the historic village including the Mass of the Spadone with historical re-enactment in January, the Palio of San Donato in August, Mittelfest in summer;
But the list is still very long: from the Krampus parades in Tarvisio and Pontebba in December, to the medieval reenactment in the historic village of Valvasone, to the Muggia Carnival, to the concerts at Villa Manin and much more…
Seaside resorts: Lignano, Bibione, Grado, Sistiana, Duino;
Ski resorts: Zoncolan, Sappada, Piancavallo, Forni di Sopra, Sella Nevea, Lussari (Tarvisio);
Spa resorts: Arta Terme, Grado, and Lignano Sabbiadoro;
Mountains and trekking: The Carnic Alps offer numerous hiking and biking opportunities for all levels;
Collio: A world-renowned wine-producing region. Explore by car, on foot, or by bike, amid magnificent views, wineries, and agritourism.
Golf: The region boasts seven 18-hole golf courses: Castello di Spessa, Pordenone, Trieste, Udine, Grado, Lignano, and Tarvisio;
Cycling routes: including the Alpe Adria cycle route (FVG1), which connects Salzburg to Grado and the Adriatic Sea cycle route (FVG2) which, starting from Slovenia, connects Gorizia, Trieste and Venice;
Friuli Venezia Giulia is a border region. Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia are easily accessible for day trips.
The same goes for Venice, Verona, and other cities in the Veneto region.
The municipality of Mortegliano is best known for its bell tower. At 113.2 meters tall, it is the tallest bell tower in Italy and also one of the tallest buildings in the world. A unique work of art, it is constructed from a framework of exposed reinforced concrete beams and pillars.
In Mortegliano you can find the famous Trattoria da Nando.
The town square is home to the church, fountain, and medieval bell tower. There’s also a playground with a children’s play area and a cycle path through the surrounding countryside.
The main events are the Perdon Di Sant Antoni (village festival) on the first Sunday in September, the Festa dell’Oca and del Vin Novello in November and the agricultural food market every second Saturday of the month (except July and August).
In Lavariano you can find Frasca da Garbin, Frasca Borgo Magna and the AB Osteria Contemporanea restaurant.
